SPEAKER BIO:
In 2000 Martinez accepted a position as the Chief Internal Auditor with the
Sycuan Tribal Gaming Commission and continues to hold that position to the present.  Martinez
oversees and conducts internal audits of all departments of the Sycuan Casino, a gaming facility
on Sycuan Tribal land.  The audits performed include operational, financial, and regulatory audits
with their focus being to protect Tribal assets, ensure the integrity of gaming, and to assure that
the casino is in compliance with Federal, State, and Sycuan Tribal regulations including all
aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act as it pertains to Currency Transaction Reports, Suspicious
Transactions, and Anti Money Laundering.  

Martinez’ career includes three years in the Marine Corps, four years as an IRS Revenue Agent,
twenty-one years as a Special Agent with the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS, a private
investigator, and a short period as an elementary substitute teacher.  His career duties have
included Marine Corps Drill Instructor; investigating and prosecuting individuals and businesses
for criminal violations of tax and money laundering statutes; undercover agent, financial
investigative technique’s instructor in foreign countries; and lately as the head of an audit
department.  Martinez is a graduate of San Diego State University majoring Accounting, a
Certified Fraud Examiner and a California Licensed Private Investigator.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Stephen Peel, Financial Crime Investigator, Wells Fargo Corporate
Security and Investigations.

In the Member Spotlight in June will be our own Stephen Peel, Speaker Coordinator for the Los
Angeles ACFE chapter.  Stephen, who specializes in financial crime investigations for Wells
Fargo, will give a five-minute presentation about his position, responsibilities, and investigations
for Wells Fargo.
